“The Help” after 60 rejections

By now, I have to believe you’ve read Kathryn Stockett’s, “The Help”. I loved this book. And when I sold it for $1 at our twice-annual garage sale, I almost told the buyer that I’d changed my mind and I wouldn’t be selling that book.

What’s even more wonderful than the book is the author’s resolve to get it published. She was rejected 60 times before finally getting it published. SIXTY TIMES!!!! She’s my reminder for the day to never give up. If you’re that passionate about something and truly believe in it, it’ll come to fruition. Believe in it and yourself.

My favorite quotes if you don’t get a chance to read this article (but you should):

  • Her first rejection, “Story did not sustain my interest.”
  • 4oth rejection letter, “There is no market for this kind of tiring writing.”
  • After rejection #45 she’s rewriting the last chapter WHILE in labor with her daughter, “…nurse looked at me like I wasn’t human and said in a New Jersey accent, ‘Put the book down, you nut job—you’re crowning.'”

And my favorite…

“The point is, I can’t tell you how to succeed. But I can tell you how not to: Give in to the shame of being rejected and put your manuscript—or painting, song, voice, dance moves, [insert passion here]—in the coffin that is your bedside drawer and close it for good. I guarantee you that it won’t take you anywhere. Or you could do what this writer did: Give in to your obsession instead.”

I’m looking forward to seeing this movie very soon. Let me know what you think of either (the book or movie)!

Harry Potter when they were little

If you’re sick of me posting about Harry Potter … TOO BAD!!! Get used to it people. You’ll have this for another 30 days+ until July 15!

But seriously, watch this clip. The best part is the very beginning. Hard to believe they were sooooo little, and adorable.

And MORE!!! Different clips.

Gosh, I didn’t mean to make Sarah Jessica Parker cry. I just said “Sex and the City 2” was a mess. I at least contributed my $10 towards that $37.1M.

“Fans of ‘Sex and the City’ may have seen the girls drink their last cosmo. According to various reports, including Grazia magazine, a third installment of the film series has been halted. ‘Sex and the City 2,’ which grossed only $37.1 million its opening weekend, fared far worse in theaters than its predecessor. An industry insider told Grazia, ‘SJP did not see this coming. She has been in tears about it all.'”

Too bad it’s not like Whitney Houston’s recent concert tour where people are asking for their money back.
I would if I could!

Sex and the City 2

OK, watching this trailer for Sex and the City 2 has me thinking only one thing…

I NEED TO GET MY BEST GIRLFRIENDS TO NYC SO WE CAN GO SEE THIS MOVIE IN THE CITY IT WAS MEANT TO BE SEEN IN (yes, that is a preposition at the end of that sentence)!!!!  Daily Violets, you coming with me?

And can I just say one more thing … OMG, Aidan is back!!!

I’m done, and can’t wait for May 27th.

“New Moon” thoughts

I’m embarrassed to write that I got caught up in the Twilight book series. Though Stephenie Meyer is no JK Rowling, the books were somewhat entertaining. I say somewhat because that teenage angst got a bit irritating at times. Regardless, I couldn’t put the stupid books down.

My biggest gripe was the “New Moon” book. That has got to be one of the worst books I’ve EVER read. Now let me first preface my comment with the fact that I get I’m not the target audience. Teenagers would relate to Bella’s drama a lot easier than I do at this point in my life, however, the thought of this girl waking up in the middle of the night screaming, for a vampire she can barely kiss, let alone snuggle up with without having hypothermia … COME ON!! Were she my kid she would have gotten a few slaps to the head and a good push out the door to school!! He’s a vampire, he’s dead, PULL. IT. TOGETHER!

As for the movie, here’s how you take a crap-ass book and make the movie interesting …

Taylor Lautner / New Moon

What did you think of the movie, or book?
